Sage Sonic Review - A Fly Rod Series with Something for Everyone - SONIC Model by Model Review
Today I am reviewing the Sage Sonic - one of our best-selling freshwater fly rods here at our fly shop. If you enjoy our reviews and they are helpful to you, please consider buying your next fly rod or reel from us!
I am impressed with how many different options and types of rods are covered by the Sage Sonic fly rod family. So many great choices. Everything from 3wt all the way to 8wt, with several different models in each weight. 16 different single-hand rods, plus the Sonic two-hand rods including both Switch and Spey types, which cover another 8 models. That's a total of TWENTY-FOUR DIFFERENT SONICS.
If you can't find a rod you like in this series, I don't know if there's any hope for you. There's something here for everyone. This is part of Sage's "core" lineup so that makes total sense. This is the bread and butter. Combined with the R8 Core series, this forms the majority of the rods Sage sells. While I mainly sell the saltwater cousin of the Sonic, the Sage Maverick, the Sonic is very popular as well.
Now I want to mention an idea that Sage knows very well. Versatility is always a Sage strong point, but it's the user-friendly nature of these fly rods that Sage does so well. Other rods are perhaps too fast or overly aggressive for beginners and intermediate casters, which Sage knows, but they also know people love the idea of high performance. So they have to reconcile performance with usability for the customer. These are fast-action rods but not overly so, and they are very easy to cast and enjoyable throughout the whole series.
