NEW Fly Lines, always an exciting topic. There aren't that many new fly lines for saltwater each year so when I get some in, it's time to get testing! Scientific Anglers (SA) have released these new fly lines just in time for Spring/Summer Striper fishing. The coolest part of these lines is they are actually great for saltwater AND freshwater. People often don't realize that Striper live in both fresh and saltwater, even in lakes far from the sea (one of the big ones is Lake Lanier near Atlanta). So these are actually very useful and versatile fly lines. They will work just as well for other Bass species and more.

First, an overview of what's new for 2025 with the official names from SA:

Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth STRIPER Fly Line

Scientific Anglers Sonar STRIPER Fly Line - Intermediate

Scientific Anglers Sonar STRIPER Fly Line - Sinking I/S5/S7

Like the Titan series from SA, these Striper lines are all roughly two sizes heavy. And what was the go-to SA line for Striper before this? Most people were using Amplitude Smooth TITAN LONG for floating purposes, or one of the SONAR TITAN fly lines for intermediate or sinking applications. You can still use these and they work great, but what's one major difference? TEMPERATURE Ratings!

The new floating and intermediate STRIPER lines are designed for Medium to Hot water temps. So this will allow you to fish from Spring through Summer and all the way into Fall. Pretty great. Versatile lines sell really well. Interestingly, the SINKING version is for Cold to Medium temps. So you're set for Fall through Winter, and probably fine in Spring as well.

This is a great new series of fly lines, and probably long overdue. People who know were already using the correct SA fly lines like Titan Long, but as I always tell customers and the brands, it's much easier for people to make a decision when they are unsure of which fly line to get, if it just says the name of the fish on the box. Striper line for striper, got it.

However, the cool thing as I mentioned above, is that I see these being perfectly fine for many other fish species if you need a heavier line. Remember like the Titan series from SA, these Striper lines are all roughly two sizes heavy. But you can size them down if you want, for example putting an 8wt line on your 9wt rod to go just one size heavy rather than two. Just a nice tip in case you don't like overly heavy lines. You can dial it in however you need it.
