The 990-4 is a very versatile all-water rod, from Golden Dorado in Patagonia to striped bass on the Chesapeake, large anadromous species, and big aggressive freshwater meat-eaters. This rod can handle them all with plenty of power and finesse. Sage recommends the new Rio Predator Elite series fly lines for the 9wt R8 for freshwater species and we also like Striper and Jungle series lines. Elite Permit line and the newest Rio Redfish lines are also great choices.
