Shilton set out to create a robust monofilament shock leader for conquering large powerful species, one that matches the Shilton ethos of great quality at a reasonable price. Shilton’s shock leader came about because our R&D team could never quite get the right kind of leader required for GTs and blue-water species, one that is relatively supple and doesn’t sink like fluorocarbon. It could not be too supple as  soft mono attracts significantly more bite offs. The result is a stiffer mono with a diameter equal to soft mono, has great knot strength and a way better bite-off ratio. Shilton Shock Leader comes in at 50 meter rolls of 100lb, 130lb and 150lb and is reasonably priced.

Most giant trevally guides will tell you that the best way to land these incredibly powerful fish is to keep them from running far enough to cut you off on structure. Strong fluorocrabon might come to mind, but it sinks much faster than nylon at larger diameters and affects fly presentation. That's why the standard leader configuration for GT fishing has become level monofilament with break strength in the 100-130lb range. Available in extremely high break strengths with a large diameter, this material takes pure stopping power and abrasion resistance to the extreme.
