I have always liked this quote by Warren Buffett: "Price is what you pay. Value is what you get." We provide a lot of value well beyond what most shops offer.

Ok guys, you can clearly see we have an awesome website and you really want to shop here - but first you feel compelled to search the entire internet checking prices and reading a bunch of gear reviews. It's what you've been programmed to do when you shop. There's no need to do any of that and I will explain why. First of all in general, "the good stuff never goes on sale" and brands set the pricing that fly shops are supposed to display. We price match authorized dealers so that price isn't part of your decision, only our expertise and great service. We provide valuable expert advice so you don't end up buying the wrong thing, or something you were pushed into at some other shop - We never pressure anyone, we just suggest options. We can also tell you what gear is most popular for the fish you are going after. We know what sells the best. Not sure yet what you want or need for a trip? You can always just call us and ask for advice, we are the number one saltwater fly shop after all. And we guarantee you're getting the best value here every day, we always look out for our customers. Want something more tangible? Pricing that you see should be pretty consistent at every good fly shop, it isn't set by us it is set by the brands. We can give you things like free fly line with most fly rods, or high-quality backing with reels, but we can't display lower prices or run sales whenever we want. It makes the brands cranky and it makes other fly shops cranky too. Is some other shop discounting? Call or email us, show us the page or offer.

Let's talk about price, the thing many people seem very focused on. We do not have flexibility on what price is advertised, known as the MSRP or MAP which is the pricing set by the manufacturers for most fly rods and reels. We can't do anything about displayed pricing, even though you may see some of our competitors ignoring the rules (that actually indicates you should not buy with them, because they are probably shady and are definitely not supposed to do that).

What we do in those situations is to match their pricing or offers. Now this still somehow upsets certain brands, some are more understanding of the predicament than others but this is just how retail works. Customers will visit 20 different websites and see where they can get something cheaper. Congratulations to those of you who don't behave that way but it's pretty typical these days. Remember, we can match competitor pricing but they can't match our saltwater expertise or service. Did you know we regularly loan out fly rods and reels to our good customers who need to send their own gear in for service or repair? Yep. At no extra cost for our good customers. So it definitely pays to be a regular with a shop like ours. Nobody else offers anything like it. And that's only one example.

What often happens is people don't want to bother calling or emailing to get a price match and they just buy it somewhere that was cheaper. Do not contact us after you buy elsewhere to ask us for help or advice. We don't need the bargain basement crowd, we have a very elite clientele. I can't tell you how many nitwits will call up saying "Oh I just bought this rod and reel from a shop, but they didn't seem to really know about saltwater fly fishing the way you guys do, so I had some questions about it" - If this applies to you: Go away. We are extremely nice and polite to good customers but that's not a good customer. That's just garbage. And the audacity to come waste our time is unreal.

We are professionals and we are absolutely here to help serious people with questions who are in the process of buying a rod or reel - that doesn't mean you have any pressure to buy it now but we do expect that you will come back to us when you are ready to buy if we spend time helping you and answering your questions.

Did you know we let our regular customers exchange anything (including rods and reels, or even fly lines) even after it has already been fished or used? Yep. It is at our discretion, but again it pays to be a good customer. We will first talk to you about what you didn't like so we can get you something that fits you better. That's our job. Making sure you aren't just getting "The Best Fly Rod" but the one that suits you the best. It isn't always the one you read all the reviews about either.

I can't tell you how many customers have called me, about to leave for a trip and practicing casting in their yard, snapped the tip off their rod. Guess who overnights them a loaner rod? Me. Think I don't know what you paid or remember how much you chiseled me for a deal when you bought the rod? Am I motivated then to help you out when you didn't hesitate to tell me you'd shop with my competitor just to save a nickel? Hmmm. Think about it. And of course if all this doesn't apply to you, that's great. My point is we add a ton of value for our valuable customers. And we aren't overly concerned about the bargain hunters and the painfully cheap customers who just go around beating up shops because they are miserable people. We don't need their business anyway - we have way too many good customers to worry about a few bad ones. 

 

You know what's actually the biggest benefit to working with us? Availability to help with nearly anything, all day every day. We answer the phones every single day of the week 365 days a year from 10am to 10pm Eastern time. Absolutely nobody else does this. I personally answer many of the calls. I am not some absentee owner, I am here to help you. But I can't help you if you never give us the opportunity or tell me what you want. Stop scouring the entire internet for fly fishing advice - just pick up the phone.
