Orvis MISSION Short Spey Fly Rods - New for 2025!
These new short Spey rods are light, easy to cast in tight spots, and more accurate than ever.
American-made Mission two-handed rods are built right here in Vermont using award-winning Helios™ rod technology. On the water, these Short Spey rods deliver a combination of performance and castability, with blanks designed to dampen vibrations, making every cast easier and more accurate. The Mission series is made up of 10 rods, from 11' Switch and Trout Spey rods to 13'6" Full Spey models. Blanks are matte black with orange accents, and each has a quick rod identifier. We have added composite cork on the grip in high-wear areas. Each rod is finished with chrome snake guides, a stripping guide with SiC insert, and a down-locking, self-indexing machined aluminum reel seat with dark burl wooden insert. And it’s all served up in an orange tube with a Mission signature sock.
The Mission Short Spey 12' 6-Weight Rod works well with both Skagit and Scandi heads but really shows its stuff with lighter rigs and smaller flies. It is long enough to handle the two-handed casts necessary for bigger water but light enough to let smaller summer steelies show off. The 12' 6-weight Short Spey is an excellent rod for rivers such as the North Fork of the Salmon, the Klamath, the Trinity, and Great Lakes tributaries as well. Perfect for swinging small intruder flies like the Hobo Spey and other smaller salmon and steelhead streamers. An excellent rod for working higher in the water column.
The Mission Short Spey 12' 7-Weight Rod is the midweight offering in the Short Spey series. This is the rod with the versatility to span the range. It can handle Scandi or Skagit heads. It can get you the distance you need on bigger water without sacrificing delicacy and effectiveness in tight quarters. And it has the backbone to manage bigger fish while allowing anglers the chance to play smaller fish with delicacy. The 12' 7-wt. Short Spey is a go-to size for most anglers who want to fish a Spey rod when and wherever they can.
The Mission Short Spey 12' 8-Weight Rod is the down-and-dirty brawler of the Short Spey lineup. This rod was built for smaller rivers and bigger fish, or anywhere that Skagit heads, big flies, and sink tips are required. This is the rod that will turn over those heavier rigs quickly and easily, allowing you to get lower in the water column fast and maneuver big fish in technical or heavy water.
