"This fly started out as a slim shrimp imitation with metal bead eyes. But it soon became obvious that the fish preferred a version tied with 3-D molded eyes. So, the dubbing material was bulked up, and with a marabou skirt, and a supple, synthetic hair tail, the fly now had a tapering, baitfish, profile. Some wraps of non-lead wire gave the fly a better sink rate, and often fish would hit the fly as it was sinking. Bright, contrasting, colors instead of flashy materials were used to make the fly more visible. The resulting pattern was not only very successful, but it provided a distinct alternative to the other flies I have developed for Umpqua." - Signature Tyer Bill Murdich
