The difference is that this bug is entirely synthetic—no wrestling hard to manage feathers that tend to twist or spin on the shank. The palmered brushes give this pattern a cylindrical shape that moves a significant amount of water for a minuscule fly. Its bushy body also keeps the fly from plummeting to the bottom and imparts it with a lifelike swimming motion without much forward movement.
