Lamson Hyperspeed F5+ & F7+ Review - Awesome New Fly Reels from Lamson!
Sometimes you gotta go fast. Time for Hyperspeed.
I am very excited about these new Hyperspeed F reels. Go read my reviews of the Hyperspeed M8 and the M10 for some background. First things first: the F technically indicates "Freshwater" but these reels are totally sealed and fine for saltwater use as well. In fact, I will be using the F7 on my 8wt mangrove / backcountry setup. This brand new Ranger Green color is also perfect for stealthy sneaking in shallow water, mangroves, marshes, etc. Redfish guys are gonna love this thing as much as the Trout streamer and Bass guys will!
Don't overthink this reel too much. It's cool, it looks great, it's fun to crank - You don't need it but you know you want one.
I may have hinted before that I knew Lamson was cooking up something very cool in this department. I have sold a good number of the Hyperspeed M8's and I knew the larger M10 was coming some day. Review on that M10 beast is here today as well!
So: Freshwater and high retrieve rates... Does this make sense? Is it any good? Do you need one?
No, you don't "need" one. Yes, it's very cool. Yes, it still makes sense in freshwater. It's about faster line management, don't worry so much about the retrieve rate with a fish on, you aren't dragging in the fish with the reel anyway if you know what you are doing. A fly rod combo isn't intended as a tow truck or a winch.
This new reel is about making your life a bit easier. Taking up the slack with just a few turns. Keeping you from tripping over yourself on a pile of line. But also: Keeping that stupid f-ing fish away from that stupid fallen tree.
